Tour of Portugal. Byron Munton wins at Senhora da Graça

Tour of Portugal. Byron Munton wins at Senhora da Graça

South African cyclist Byron Munton (Feirense-Beeceler) won today the fourth stage of the Volta a Portugal, which finished at the top of Senhora da Graça, in Mondim de Basto, with Russian Artem Nych (Anicolor-Tien21) taking the lead overall.

Munton, 26, won alone in Senhora da Graça, the place where the stage that started in Bragança ended, which was neutralized and shortened due to the fire in Serra do Alvão.

Colombian Jesús Peña (AP Hotels&Resorts-Tavira-Farense) finished second in the stage, nine seconds behind, with Russian Artem Nych, the 2024 winner, in third with the same time. Nych now leads the overall standings, eight seconds ahead of Munton and 12 seconds ahead of Peña.

On Monday, the fifth stage will connect Lamego to Viseu, covering 155.5 kilometers, on a stage with two mountain passes and which could be one of the rare opportunities for the sprinters to fight for victory.
