Three foreign children rescued in Cacela Velha

Three foreign children in difficulty in the water were rescued on Saturday in an unmonitored area, in the Cacela Velha bar, in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, district of Faro, reported the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
The three children, “aged between seven and 10 and of Spanish nationality”, were “in difficulty in the water, in an unsupervised area, after being swept away by the current”, said AMN, in a statement.
During a surveillance operation in the Cacela Velha area, members of the “SeaWatch” Project in Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira detected three children “needing assistance in the water.”
The children, who were being "dragged along by the strong current," were rescued and taken to land, but were in good physical condition and did not require medical assistance, AMN reported.
The Maritime Authority has once again reinforced “the advice against bathing in the Cacela Velha area due to the dangers” it poses.
This was the second incident of its kind in the space of two days, after another seven-year-old child was rescued on Friday in the same place and under the same circumstances.
