Man dies after being run over on the IC20 bypass in Trafaria

A man, aged between 40 and 50, was fatally hit by a car this Sunday on the Itinerário Complementar 20 (IC20) variant in the town of Trafaria , in the municipality of Almada, revealed the GNR and Civil Protection.

In statements to the Lusa news agency, the Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of the Setúbal Peninsula indicated that the alert for the pedestrian being run over was given to the authorities at 5:14 am.

The emergency medical and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) based at the Hospital de S. Francisco Xavier, in Lisbon, was mobilized to the scene, whose doctor “certified the death”, the source added.

Also contacted by Lusa, a source from the Setúbal Territorial Command, the district to which Trafaria belongs, specified that the accident, involving a light passenger vehicle, caused the death of “a man, between 40 and 50 years old”.

“The body of the fatal victim was taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine, in Lisbon,” the Guarda source also revealed.

The investigation into the accident has been handed over to the GNR's Setúbal Traffic Accident Criminal Investigation Unit (NICAV).

The rescue operations in this incident involved 15 personnel, supported by seven vehicles, including the Trafaria Volunteer Firefighters, GNR, INEM and Brisa.
