Devir's return with Angolême awards and comic book classics

Devir's return with Angolême awards and comic book classics

The publication of the last five issues of the Angoulême Collection, dedicated to award-winning international comics, as well as new volumes of cult series, are some of Devir's editorial novelties for the rentrée, until the end of the year.

From Japanese manga to Franco-Belgian comics, including classics of North American pop culture, Devir's new releases bring together a program that crosses genres, styles and audiences, with highlights including new volumes of "Batman," "The Walking Dead" and "Punpun," in addition to the titles that complete the eight-volume collection of the Angoulême collection, the publisher announced.

This month, “The Blue Notebook” by André Juillard (Angoulême Best Album Award 1995) arrives, a “subtle and melancholic narrative” that “crosses art with the silences of everyday life”, about a lonely man who records his thoughts and sketches of his lover in a notebook.

The collection continues in September with “Silence”, by Didier Comès (Angoulême Best Album Award 1981), a poetic and dark graphic novel set in the Ardennes, centered on a mute and naive young man, exploited and marginalized by the community.

In October, “Anaïs Nin” by Léonie Bischoff (Angoulême Public Prize 2021) will be published, portraying the intimate and creative life of the French-Cuban writer, especially her intense relationship with Henry Miller and June, based on the author's diaries.

The following month brings “The Taste of Chlorine”, by Bastien Vivès (Angoulême Revelation Prize 2009), a visual and contemplative narrative, with little dialogue and an aquatic atmosphere, which follows the development of a relationship between a young man and a woman he meets in a swimming pool.

In December, the Angoulême cycle concludes with “Kiki de Montparnasse” , by Catel & Bocquet (Prémio Essencial Angoulême 2008), a comic book biography of the Parisian muse of the 1920s, model and companion of photographer Man Ray, who became a notable figure for her independence and boldness.

The first three volumes of the collection, already published by Devir, were the “Nikopol Trilogy”, by Enki Bilal, “Alack Sinner: Police or Detective”, by Muñoz & Sampaio, and “Malka's Silence”, by Pellejero & Zentner.

In addition to these titles, all linked to the Franco-Belgian comics tradition, the new season also includes new volumes of some of the most popular manga series among Portuguese readers, including "Astra Lost in Space" vol. 4, by Kenta Shinohara, "Good Night, Punpun" vol. 4 and 5, by Inio Asano, "Children of the Sea" vol. 3, by Daisuke Igarashi, and "Monster" vol. 6, by Naoki Urasawa, along with horror titles such as "Soichi" vol. 2, by Junji Ito.

The list of releases is further reinforced by new volumes of some of the most popular manga series among Portuguese readers, including “Jujutsu Kaisen”, “Chainsaw Man”, “Naruto”, “Dragon Ball”, “One Piece”, “My Hero Academia”, “Demon Slayer”, “Blue Exorcist” and “Frieren”.

In the North American version, the publisher will continue to publish successful titles such as "The Walking Dead" vol. 6, by Robert Kirkman, and "The Beautiful Lake House" vol. 2, by James Tynion IV and Álvaro Martínez Bueno.

According to the publisher, the DC Comics hero "Batman" returns in force, with the publication of volumes 2 to 6 of the saga written by Grant Morrison, which introduces Damian Wayne as Robin, explores the psychological limits of Bruce Wayne and marks the transition of legacy to Dick Grayson.
