Epifanio Lantigua National Tourism Journalism Award presented

During a gala held at the Sheraton Hotel in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur) presented the twenty-first edition of the Epifanio Lantigua National Tourism Journalism Award (PEL 2025).
The event, held under the theme " We Are Culture," saw journalist Katheryn Luna win the 2025 Epifanio Lantigua Grand Prize for her work on inclusive tourism. She received a cash prize of 85,000 pesos and round-trip airfare courtesy of Arajet.
Its publication highlighted the social focus, narrative depth, and relevance of the topic for the development of a more humane and inclusive tourism , the jury's assessment emphasized.

Meanwhile, in the regional category, Mayerlín Martínez, from M Digital, was awarded, as well as a special mention to Ramón Ramos, from Gente TV.
In the arts and culture category , journalist Elena Crespo was recognized, and in ecotourism, Karla Alcántara, from the newspaper Acento, received the award. Katheryn Luna , also from Acento, won in the digital journalism category, and Solangel Valdez received an honorable mention.



In the Gastronomy category, Sudelka García , from the newspaper El Nacional, was awarded; while in the Print and/or Digital Magazine category, Sergio Cid won. Additionally, Ángela Carrasco and Odalis Castillo received a special mention in Music Tourism.
In audiovisual, the winners were Karelyn Cuevas and Francisco Medrano ; in Opinion Journalism, Magaly Toribio won, while the special mention went to Adrián Morales.
- The Print Journalism category was awarded to Karina Jiménez, and the special mention went to Pedro Sánchez, from the newspaper Diario Libre.

The award for "Outstanding Media Outlet of the Year" went to Infotur Dominicano, directed by journalist Javier Noguera, for its informative trajectory and its contribution to strengthening the national tourism sector, with a focus on statistics, sustainability, and investment.


Minister David Collado was specially awarded for his contribution to the positioning of tourism in the Dominican Republic.
Sarah Hernández delivered the welcoming remarks, praising the role of journalists and the importance of practicing with a sense of professional responsibility.
"Tonight we recognize the commitment to truth, consistency, and the passion for telling stories that transform. The Epifanio Lantigua Award celebrates precisely that: journalism that educates, guides, and builds."
Likewise, the vice president of Adompretur and director of PEL 2025, Millizen Uribe, reflected on the challenges facing journalism in the digital age, marked by disinformation and automation:
"We are living through tough times for professional journalism. But the way forward is not to give up: it is to return to rigor, ethics, and professionalism . Because without good journalism, there is no good tourism," Uribe emphasized, thanking the 54 participants who competed with 115 journalistic works from 41 media outlets.
The juryThe jury was chaired by journalism master Tony Pérez and was made up of renowned professionals Luis Felipe Aquino, Gustavo Olivo Peña, Esteban Rosario, Bolívar Troncoso, Oscar Peña, José Antonio Aybar, José Mármol, Edgar Lantigua, Luis Pérez and Caroll Mueses.
Each winner received 50,000 pesos, the iconic statuette of José Ignacio Morales "El Artístico," and a certificate of recognition. Honorable mentions were awarded diplomas.
