Call the Midwife: Nigel the cat dies on Cyril's lap
Call the Midwife made for emotional viewing on Sunday night (February 23) as fans were left heartbroken by the hard-hitting scenes.
The popular BBC drama, which focuses on the trials and tribulations of East London based midwives were back for another nail-biting episode which kept fans glued to their seats. But as the programme progressed a number of saddening themes occurred.
One storyline in particular, which left viewers stunned, centred on mother-to-be Jacqui Berridge, who was on the brink of giving birth but also suffered from a serious heroin addiction. Later on in the programme, although the doctors and midwives tried to help Jacqui with the delivery of her second child, they also had a challenge on their hands as they attempted to phase out her drug dependency.
Jacqui was determined to get better for her children but heroin was still detectable when a blood test was performed. On the other hand, Jacqui's husband Laurence, who previously took drugs with his wife was no sober.
After a complicated birth, Jacqui successfully delivered her son, Micheal. However, due to her dependency, the medical professionals were concerned if she would be able to keep her children.
As fans continued to watch Jackie's story they headed over to X to share their thoughts. One viewer said: "Aww this is a hard episode." While another added: "Poor Jackie I can’t stop crying."
