Oscar nominee Penelope Milford has died

Milford's death was confirmed by his brother, Doug Milford. The actor died Tuesday in Saugerties, New York. The cause of death is not yet known.

Penelope Milford was best known for her role as Vi Munson in the 1978 film " Coming Home ." Co-starring alongside Jane Fonda, Jon Voight, and Bruce Dern, she portrayed a soldier's sister grappling with post-war trauma. For this performance, she earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress , which went to Maggie Smith for her role in " California Suite " that same year.

Milford, who was active not only in cinema but also in the theater stage, made a significant breakthrough by portraying the character of Jenny Anderson in the musical Shenandoah , staged in 1974.
