Lady Gaga rocked Rio: 2 million people attended

The Lady Gaga concert held in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday not only mobilized music lovers but also the city's economy. The event, financed by the city government, is expected to generate $100 million in economic benefits for the city.

The concert was held as part of Lady Gaga's promotional tour for her eighth studio album, Mayhem. The singer, who performed songs such as Abracadabra and Die With a Smile from the album, last performed in Brazil in 2012.

Fans formed long queues from early morning to enter the beach area where the concert would be held. Security measures were at the highest level. 5,000 police were assigned to the event, and participants were passed through metal detectors. Drones and facial recognition technology were also used to increase security.

Rio hosted a free Madonna concert in May 2024. That event was also funded by the city government. Along with the Lady Gaga concert, Rio continues to support tourism and the economy with large-scale cultural events.
