It's a terrible thing when the bootlickers start biting your toes off.

According to Punchbowl News, Amazon was planning to display how much the president's tariffs have added to the cost of every item right next to the total price. This sent the White House up the wall. Forbes reported that the president already had leaned on Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder and chairman In her daily briefing, Secretary of Barefaced Non-Facts Karoline Leavitt went tooth and claw and threadbare cliche.

“This is a hostile and political act by Amazon. Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?”

Biden, of course, did not "hike inflation" anywhere, as Leavitt may or may not know.

In any case, by the end of the day Amazon had folded, which is not a surprise but, for a second, Bezos must have felt like Andy Dufresne, tearing off his T-shirt in the rain. Instead, he got a pat on the head from Trump: "Jeff Bezos was very nice. He was terrific. He solved the problem very quickly and he did the right thing. He's a good guy."

Speaking in a nonpartisan way, if the government were to require each receipt to carry the additional cost due to inflation, or due to tariffs, I wouldn't object to that at all. It might even qualify as a public service.
