Gradually, the fruit became popular among farmers, especially after adapting well to the Brazilian climate. Considered exotic, this white-fleshed fruit with a distinctive sweet-and-sour flavor is recommended by nutritionists for blood pressure control and healing properties .

Producer Abel Basílio de Souza Neto discovered the fruit in 2001, after his uncle brought some seeds from Bolivia and cultivated a small orchard for the family. In 2007, the producer planted 600 trees alongside his family's coffee farm in Itarana, a mountainous region of Espírito Santo. Today, there are over three thousand trees, which yielded 50 tons of fruit for the producer in the last harvest.
The fruit, with its hard, resistant skin, is often confused with other Brazilian varieties, such as bacupari and bacurizinho. The ideal harvest time in the Southeast region, where there are already many producers, is December.
