From Zizi Possi to the secret girlfriend: remember the loves of Angela Ro Ro

A strong and conflicted personality, Angela Ro Ro often spoke (and sang) openly about her relationships. The singer, who died this Monday at the age of 75, had her final years marked by intense relationships, but she never shied away from talking about the occasional scandals that marked her career and her life.

Considered one of the first openly lesbian artists in the country, she came out as gay in the 1970s, and since then has accumulated loves, some more public than others.

Zizi Possi

Ro Ro had a troubled relationship with Zizi Possi in the late 1970s. The affair ended in 1980, and Angela publicly revealed her ex's bisexuality during a concert. At the time, controversy fell on Angela not only for having revealed the truth about Zizi, but also due to a rumor of assault, which she denied.

"I never hit anyone, not even that singer in 1981. I never slapped her, nor did she slap me," he told the Gay Blog website in 2020. "And to this day, I carry this cross of infamy and slander. I greatly admire her singing, I wish her well, I wish her no harm. It was unforgivable, and the omission remains unforgivable. She could have simply said at any time, from that year until today: 'Look, Ro Ro never hit me.' It wouldn't have cost anything. She kept quiet, and silence means consent."

Angela dated cultural producer Verônica Menezes for about a year and announced the breakup by announcing on social media that she had been cheated on and used by her ex, who was 30 years her junior. The artist said she suffered prejudice because of her age.

"Verônica came to tell me that she was with a woman ten years younger than her. One paragraph she sent me was: 'I love you, but I'm with her because she's younger than me, we're young and we have our lives ahead of us.' That made me sad. Do I have no life? Am I Janis Joplin buried alive? It's ageism. This woman of almost 40 years old, to whom I opened my home, my body, my heart, my affection, my intimacy, I gave everything that can be given without being material," he declared at the time, according to the newspaper Extra .

Mayara Serra

Ro Ro's love life made headlines again a year later, when she started dating 20-year-old Mayara Serra - 50 years younger than Angela.

The relationship was virtual, but a day after posting a photo confirming the relationship, the singer recanted, implying that Mayara was simply trying to promote herself at her expense. The young woman denied this, stating that she had been cheated on by the artist and that this was the reason for the breakup. Angela, however, countered, stating that the younger woman did not accept the end of the relationship.

Secret romance with physiotherapist

Angela spoke about finding a new love in November 2024. She revealed that she was dating a physiotherapist, but stated that she would not reveal her identity, as her beloved "didn't like to be seen."

In January of this year, she even posted a statement stating that her relationship was over. "I've been with someone for the last three and a half years who said he was ashamed of me. Sad. All I can do is say goodbye and continue being happy," she wrote. The post, however, has since been deleted.
