Expert reveals variations of the haircut that is a worldwide trend

The haircut of the moment , the bob and its various variations, such as the long bob, the French bob and the shaggy bob, is a more modern reinterpretation of one of the most classic and universal cuts of all time: the chanel.

"What differentiates a bob from a bob is basically the fact that the bob usually has a more expressive tip. It's a revisit to the classic with slight variations; we have medium, short, and long styles, all with more striking tips," says hairstylist Igor de Oliveira .

Another trend the professional sees, not just for the upcoming season but as a whole, is investing in cuts that enhance naturalness. "It's about leaving your hair with its natural texture, simplifying care and styling, but without compromising aesthetic appeal," he comments.

And here, the bob is a great alternative, as its variations allow all hair types to embrace the trend. When choosing a bob style, he says it's important to consult a professional, who will, through visagism, evaluate which length best suits your face type and which best enhances the texture of your hair fiber.

For more oval faces, a straight cut, very parallel to the face, tends to slim the look. However, if your hair is more textured, it's possible to better distribute the volume of your face, balancing it with the volume of your strands.

"Anyway, I think a bob is for everyone. You just need to go through a good evaluation and anamnesis, considering everything from the foundation, like shampoo and conditioner, which is where it all starts, to your skill level and knowledge of styling products," says the professional.

Bob types

Short, reaching no further than the cheekbones or chin, the French style has a straight base and a slight wave, reminiscent of the uncomplicated French style.

It was a hit in previous years, but it remains a modern option for those who enjoy a slightly longer look, with slightly frayed ends and subtle layers on top, which give a little more volume and a sexier look.

Shorter and bolder than the classic bob, it features choppy, textured layers and a messier, more rebellious look. With 1970s references, it's full of movement and volume.

The longest of the variations, as the name suggests, is a cut with longer strands in the front and a medium fit. It usually reaches the shoulders and can be styled with any texture, flattering any face shape.

How to care for your bob

According to Igor, a bob doesn't require any specific care; what really matters is that the hair is well cared for. "Regardless of the cut, there's no such thing as ugly hair or beautiful hair. What exists is healthy hair and unhealthy hair."

Bob cuts are all about symmetry and a design that showcases the ends of the hair. Therefore, for the style to enhance a person's beauty, it's important that the ends of the hair are hydrated and bouncy.

In addition to the ends of your hair, Igor emphasizes that maintaining scalp health is also essential. "I see that this aspect isn't always discussed; it's largely confined to the doctor's office. But after the pandemic and all the stress, people began to experience more health imbalances, and the appearance of their hair, nails, and skin are health markers," warns the expert.

Universal care, which applies to bobs, involves a good shampoo suited to your hair texture and providing proper hygiene, removing product residue and pollution. Next, a good conditioner that promotes emollience and matches the fiber's pH level to prevent stretching, which can cause the hair to become too elastic, compromising the bob's design.
