Assobio: a different perspective of the Douro

Assobio: a different perspective of the Douro

When we talk about wine, we also talk about the Douro, one of the most emblematic wine regions in the world, known for its structured, mature and intense wines. However, there is a Douro yet to be discovered, with other facets and different characteristics. Assobio is a clear example that the Douro can also be light, fresh and vibrant. With its own identity and a distinct approach, Assobio wines offer a new perspective on the region.

The Assobio range, white, red and rosé, is made from grapes grown in the highest parts of the Douro, on plots facing north, where the sun is less direct and the temperature ranges are greater. These vineyards, located mainly in the Cima Corgo sub-region, belong to small local winegrowers with whom Esporão works closely. The name Assobio comes from the constant winds that cross these slopes and set the pace of ripening, giving the grapes a natural freshness that is rare in the region.

Contrary to the traditional and concentrated profile of Douro wines, Assobio wines are distinguished by their balance, lightness and lively acidity, which make them particularly versatile at the table and ideal for consumption in more informal contexts. The choice of grapes with less ripeness, controlled fermentation and minimal intervention in the winemaking process contribute to direct, honest wines with a contemporary interpretation of the region.

Made in the Douro, with Douro grapes, but without following the region's classic model: this is the approach of Assobio wines. Lighter and more modern, this is also reflected in the brand's image, which focuses on a new aesthetic and a visual identity focused on the landscape. The current labels feature a real photograph of the vineyards and slopes where it all begins. The new image is, therefore, an invitation to see the Douro in a different light.

In the 2024 white, 2023 red or 2024 rosé versions, Assobio continues to assert itself as a wine with attitude, accessible, gastronomic, made with awareness and respect for the place it comes from, but with a more relaxed and contemporary spirit. It is this vision that defines the brand's signature: “a different perspective of the Douro”.

Whether you are just starting out in the world of wine or looking for something different from tradition, Assobio offers a gateway to a region rich in contrasts, where there is always more to discover.
