Anitta speaks out about the Shielding Constitutional Amendment: 'A disservice to our politics'

Anitta spoke out on Wednesday night, the 17th, against the Chamber of Deputies' approval of the Shielding Amendment (PEC). The proposed constitutional amendment (PEC) hinders the progress of legal proceedings against deputies and senators, including the execution of arrest warrants.
"Let's be vigilant for this further disservice to our politics," Anitta wrote on the social network X, formerly Twitter. The singer also shared an image that read: "Senators, we're counting on you," a request for the Senate to vote against the proposal.
The Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) was approved last Tuesday night, the 16th, by the Chamber of Deputies after a two-round vote. 353 members of parliament approved the draft text, while another 134 voted against it. There was only one abstention.
The proposal reinstates the "prior license," a provision that gave the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate the power to block the initiation of criminal proceedings against one of their members. The provision was included in the 1988 Constitution and was later removed after the approval of a constitutional amendment in 2001.
Before that year, to open a criminal case, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) had to request a leave of absence from the respective chamber to proceed with the case. According to Estadão, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate blocked at least 224 requests for leave from the STF to criminally prosecute members of Congress up until 2001. None of the requests were successful.
