Actress sues Rede Globo over racism

Actress sues Rede Globo over racism

Actress Roberta Rodrigues has revealed new details about the lawsuit she is taking against TV Globo, after reporting episodes of racism during the filming of the soap opera Nos Tempos do Imperador. Although the court has awarded compensation of R$500,000, the broadcaster has not yet made the payment and the actress has decided to appeal the amount stipulated.

"I have already won the case, I appealed the amount and I also asked for it not to be kept confidential, because I think that people who file any lawsuit regarding racism can use this process to their advantage," said Roberta, in an interview with the LeoDias portal.

According to the artist, the lack of a precedent made her own process difficult, which reinforces the importance of transparency in this type of case. "In my case, I didn't have any to use in my case. I want it to serve as a way for people to understand that they have to fight for their rights," she declared.

Still in the interview, Roberta explained that Globo did not accept a deal. "I won the maximum limit from the Ministry of Labor, and then I appealed for the amount I asked for. And even so, Globo did not pay the 500 thousand, that's why I'm fighting. We're going for the 10 million", she assured.

In addition to discussing the lawsuit, the actress also addressed racism in a broader sense. She cited the case of player Vinícius Júnior as an example of how often racial prejudice still manifests itself in different areas of society. "Racism is getting stronger every day, we see it in football, with Vinícius Júnior. I want this to wake people up and for companies to understand that this cannot happen, right?", she said.

Finally, Roberta made it clear that she expects corporations to take a more active stance in the fight against racism. "Every company says it's not racist, of course, we really want that to be true. I think companies need to understand that they need to look for people who are racist within their companies and make them, at the very least, respect the person who is working there," she concluded.
