The Chamber of Deputies presents posthumous recognition to Rubby Pérez.

The Dominican Republic 's Chamber of Deputies presented a posthumous recognition scroll to merengue singer Rubby Pérez on Tuesday, in a ceremony that highlighted his contributions to the country's music and culture.

The award was proposed by Representative Margarita Tejeda and highlights Rubby's legacy as a singer and his influence on merengue.

During the event , the president of the legislative body , Alfredo Pacheco, highlighted the artist's career , of whom he said he transcended from the most remote parts of the Dominican Republic .

"With the presentation of this recognition, I cannot hide that the emotion , the sorrow, the doubts, the questions about why things like this happen, limit me from coming up with the best words, because we were very excited to present this recognition personally to Rubby Pérez , something that due to fate we were unable to do," he expressed.

He added that the entire Dominican Republic has recognized him as an outstanding artist , not only after his death, but also for the success he achieved throughout his career, transcending the country's borders and establishing himself as one of the most important performers of Dominican music.

Micaías Pérez , Rubby's brother, was present at the ceremony and expressed his gratitude for the recognition . Despite the bittersweet sentiment, he noted that the tribute also reflects all the people who supported his brother throughout his career.

"This recognition , which was meant to be given to him while he was still alive, has a bittersweet quality, because we know what he was like, but we no longer have it, even though he left a very great legacy," he commented.

Other distinctions

The National District Fire Department was also recognized at the ceremony, on the occasion of its 97th anniversary , for its work in emergency situations, risk prevention, and rescue of lives. This tribute was proposed by Representative José Manuel Caraballo.

Representative Rafael Castillo proposed recognition for George Acevedo , a Dominican resident abroad, for his professional career and his contribution to the social and community development of Dominicans abroad.

  • The event , held in the Hugo Tolentino Dipp Hall , was attended by deputies, relatives of Rubby Pérez , members of the Fire Department and personalities from various fields.
