Arnold Schwarzenegger receives a tribute from Comic-Con in Spain

Arnold Schwarzenegger receives a tribute from Comic-Con in Spain

Arnold Schwarzenegger , who took his first steps in cinema as Conan, returned to Spain this Sunday, where he filmed it, as the "great guest of honor" of the first San Diego Comic-Con held in Malaga (south) and, as a former action hero , shared a message: "Do not look at the other as an enemy, there are no enemies ."

"It's a pleasure to be here to introduce a person who is not just an actor or a star or a politician; he's a legend, a legend of international cinema, and on top of that, he's charming," said Spanish actor and director Antonio Banderas , who made an unexpected appearance at the event, revealing that he met the honoree many years ago over a paella he himself had prepared.

At his side was Álex de la Iglesia. "We've managed to bring in the greatest," celebrated the Spanish director, who was in charge of leading the masterclass that the Austrian-American star gave to the 3,000 people who packed the auditorium, many of them dressed as his legendary characters.

Schwarzenegger paid tribute to his profession . "My career didn't happen on its own; I am who I am because of the fantastic directors I've worked with," he emphasized, after mentioning names like John Millius, with whom he filmed 'Conan the Barbarian' (1982).

"I will never forget my beginnings," he said at 78 years old, after recalling those days of filming in Spain between "Almería, Segovia or Madrid" and other aspects of the preparation , such as the sword lessons he received from a Japanese master and that Millius recommended he watch the film 'Seven Samurai' , by Akira Kurosawa, to focus on his role in this sword and sorcery film.

Regarding the influence of his previous stint as a bodybuilding champion, he noted that this discipline "is not just about cultivating the body, but also the mind and self-confidence ."

"And you have to convince the judges that you're the best," he said, after also mentioning the number of hours of preparation required and how that helped him in the world of cinema, for example in the casting for 'Terminator' (1984).

To the laughter of the audience, he imitated his "friend" and rival Sylvester Stallone and recounted their argument ("competition," he called it) over how many deaths each of them had caused in their films and how, after having carved out that profile of an action hero , someone realized he was "funny" and prompted his jump to comedy with 'Kindergarten Cop', 'Junior' or 'Twins'.

"It's been 50 years of fun, I can't imagine anything better and I can only say thank you, because if I'm here, it's because of the fans," he emphasized to a devoted audience, before summarizing the secret of his career and his international success: "For me it's always been about how to entertain the audience , all audiences, and that's why I became a citizen of the world ."

  • Although his most important message came in the final minutes, when he recalled how "inspiring" it was for him to also serve seven years as governor of California , the "fourth largest economy in the world," and the spirit as a " public servant " that time forged in him.

"It is extremely important that we all have the responsibility to live in this world in such a way that we leave it better than when we arrived," he noted, and especially encouraged " fighting pollution , which kills more than five million people worldwide each year."

And, above all, he recalled that, despite the profile he created for himself in his films, "we must not see the other as an enemy, because there are no enemies , and no one should hate another person for thinking differently."

  • "And remember," he said, paraphrasing one of his most memorable phrases: "I'll be back."
