The Masked Singer star 'absolutely gutted' to cancel show over health setback

The Masked Singer star 'absolutely gutted' to cancel show over health setback
The Masked Singer's Gabrielle put her UK-wide tour on pause as she admitted she was having health issues

Brit Award winner Gabrielle penned an emotional message to fans as she shared some bad news. The star revealed that she had to postpone a gig due to illness, and couldn’t yet say when she’d return to the stage.

Gabrielle, 57, who appeared on The Masked Singer in 2021, still has a very successful music career beyond the show, and is currently on a major tour. The artist - who was featured in Stormzy's song 'Mel Made Me Do It' - is travelling to big cities across the UK for her show ‘The Hits Live,’ and kicked off on April 1 in Blackpool. She then popped up to Glasgow on April 2, before being forced to cancel her next venue.

Gabrielle was due to perform at O2 City Hall in Newcastle on April 4, but explained that she wasn’t able to go ahead and give the audience the show they deserve.

On her Instagram Stories on Thursday, she wrote in white text on a black screen: “Newcastle, I’m so sorry… It breaks my heart to say this, but I have to postpone tomorrow’s show due to illness.

“This was not an easy decision, and I’m absolutely gutted. More than anything, I want to give you an incredible show, and right now, I wouldn’t be able to do that.”

The star concluded: “We are working on rescheduling the show and will keep you updated as soon as we have more details. Love you all!”

Following the postponed Newcastle date, Gabrielle is next set to perform just a day later in Birmingham on April 5. Gabrielle didn’t go into detail about her illness, but has previously gone into detail about a health change that she’s had to figure out how to adapt to while performing live.

Alongside her sparkling music career Gabrielle is also a mum of two, and returned to performing and releasing music after taking 15 years away to focus on her kids. After returning, she admitted that dealing with the menopause had resulted in some nifty tricks to stay cool on stage.

"I still can't believe I'm lucky enough to be doing what I love for over 30 years. It's been 31 years since Dreams and I'm still living out my dream of making new music and performing my songs on stage,” she told the Daily Star last summer.

The London native then added: "The only difference now is I keep singing into my fan by mistake because I get so hot on stage due to the menopause. I'll be performing and I forget I am holding a fan to keep me cool and I start singing into it thinking it's the microphone.

"I've made peace that that is what menopause can do to you. I didn't realise it was such a taboo subject until I started talking about it during my shows.”

Gabrielle hilariously explained: “I'm a chatterbox. Gabby by name, gobby by nature. It's a fact of life and nothing to be ashamed of."
