Severance Spin-off: Everything We Know (So Far)

If Ben Stiller could sever himself from the Severance press cycle, I think the comedian wouldn't blink twice. In a new interview with Variety about kicking off the writer’s room for season 3, Stiller remarked that “people really seem to be curious about the process” more than he imagined. “Stuff that happens behind the scenes should happen behind the scenes,” he said. “I don’t want to tell people the inner workings of what goes on because, frankly, it’s private.”
So, if you’re looking for plot details about season 3, you’ve come to the wrong place. However, fans may still find themselves with even more Severance to binge than just a third season. That’s right... spin-offs. Although Stiller wouldn’t answer any questions about season 3, he did offer some thoughts about Severance as a potential franchise.
According to Stiller, “There are two specific ideas—that I won’t tell you—that we’ve talked about internally as possible spin-off ideas.” As far as who or what the spin-off would feature, the director stated that the ideas were still “nascent.” Apparently, he’s also open to a video game.

For now, all we can do is speculate. One idea that comes to mind is following what happened to Irving (John Turturro). He departed on a train to an unknown destination at the end of season 2, after losing his Innie and leaving the Macrodata Refinement team at Lumon. When Variety asked Stiller if Irving is returning for season 3, the director responded, “No comment.” What about Ms. Huang (Sarah Bock)? According to Mr. Milchick (Tramell Tillman), she's off to Svalbard next.
Otherwise, a spin-off could catch up with Macrodata Refinement team that briefly appeared in the beginning of season 2: Mark W. (Bob Balaban), Gwendolyn Y. (Alia Shawkat), and Dario R. (Stefano Carannante). Where did that team come from, and where did they go? If you ask me, that was Apple TV+ testing the waters on spin-off potential for Severance. Possibly, that’s what Stiller is up to here as well.
