IWC’s Next Generation Of Ingenieurs Is Formula 1-Approved

- IWC Schaffhausen has added stunning new pieces to the Ingenieur collection.
- This year’s releases are inspired by the timepieces worn in the new F1 movie.
- IWC has also released a trio of new chronographs inspired by F1’s fictional team.
IWC Schaffhausen’s latest drop at Watches & Wonders 2025 sees the brand go full throttle into the world of cinema and motorsport, releasing a limited-edition Ingenieur Automatic 40 worn by Brad Pitt’s fictional F1 driver Sonny Hayes in the upcoming Apple Original Films’ F1. And yes, it’s every bit as slick as you’d expect from a timepiece made for the silver screen.

The watch, based on Gérald Genta’s iconic Ingenieur SL Ref. 1832, arrives with a vibrant green dial and gold-plated accents – a nod to Sonny Hayes’ signature colourway in the film. IWC collaborated with Cloister Watch Company to create the on-screen prop in the Lewis Hamilton-produced flick, set to premiere around the world in June 2025.
For a film that was determined to deliver a hyper-realistic experience for avid motorsport fans, the on-screen characters needed to look every bit as professional as the Formula 1 drivers with whom they shared the scene. This piece has now evolved into a stainless steel limited-edition production model (Ref. IW328908), capped at just 1000 pieces worldwide.
Whilst today’s release started life as a movie prop, it’s still an Ingenieur through and through, with all the industrial bravado we’ve come to expect from Genta’s enduring horological legacy. It comes with IWC’s signature grid-patterned dial, five functional bezel screws, and a classically sporty stainless steel integrated bracelet finished to within an inch of its life.

Inside, IWC’s calibre 32111 keeps things ticking with a massive 120-hour power reserve, while a soft-iron inner case ensures the movement stays protected from magnetic fields – a key detail that’s been part of the Ingenieur DNA since day one.
It’s a classy piece to add to the growing Ingenieur collection, joining the aqua and blue dials recently unveiled by IWC last year. In Geneva, the Swiss luxury Maison also revealed an all-black Ingenieur Automatic in ceramic alongside a stunning full gold novelty.
To complement the Ingenieur’s on-screen cameo, IWC has gone one step further by releasing a trio of new chronographs inspired by F1’s fictional team, APXGP. These watches don’t just look the part; they’re fully spec’d out team gear, ready to take to the pitland or the paddock on a Grand Prix weekend.
First up is the Performance Chronograph 41 (Ref. IW388309), which arrives in 18-carat 5N gold and will be seen on the wrist of Damson Idris’ character, Joshua Pearce. With a black lacquered dial, ceramic tachymetre bezel, and gold hands filled with Super-LumiNova®, this is a seriously premium piece that feels right at home in the cockpit of a Formula 1 car.

If gold’s not your thing, IWC has also dropped two stainless steel references – the 43mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph APXGP (Ref. IW378009) and the 41mm IW388116 – both dialled up in the APXGP team colours of black, gold, and white. Each features a tinted sapphire caseback with the team logo printed in gold, and comes fitted with a laser-engraved black rubber strap featuring the brand’s quick-change EasX-CHANGE® system.
All three pieces run on the IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre, a robust column-wheel chronograph movement with a vertical subdial layout and a 46-hour power reserve. So whether you’re timing a lap or racing through daily life, these watches deliver performance with a timely cinematic twist.
