ITV The Chase fans all say the same thing after teacher's embarrassing blunder

ITV The Chase fans all say the same thing after teacher's embarrassing blunder

Fans of The Chase couldn't believe their eyes after witnessing a teacher's blunder on the show, prompting some to cheekily suggest that Ofsted should intervene.

The episode, which aired on Wednesday (2 April), brought an unexpected turn when 26-year-old James from Cardiff managed to rack up £3,000 in the cash-builder round only to be stumped by a school-related question at a crucial moment against Chaser Shaun Wallace, known as the Dark Destroyer.

With the pressure on, James had an opportunity to bank more dosh for his team with just one right answer. But Bradley Walsh threw him for a loop with the query, "In England and Wales, a child can leave school in which month if they are 16 by the end of the summer holidays?"

James stumbled and tentatively chose "May", reasoning out loud that July seemed too much like a red herring since it's often synonymous with the end of the school term.

The audience watched in suspense as it turned out the correct month was June — luckily, in a twist of fate, the Dark Destroyer also goofed with the same wrong guess of July, throwing James a lifeline back into the game.

Despite the good-humoured Chaser's similar error, viewers were buzzing over the student teacher's slip-up. Marching onto Twitter, viewers shared their amazement and amusement, reports Bristol Live.

One user quipped: "Call OFSTED quick, this guy is a teacher???" while another commented, "He calls himself a teacher and doesn't know yr 11's can leave in June after their exams. Shocking!" and a third remarked, "Please don't be a teacher James."

Sadly, James fluffed the subsequent question and was knocked out by Shaun. At the episode's end, only two contestants were left to take on the Chaser, but their valiant attempt fell short, scoring 13 in the final round and losing out on the £8,000 prize.

The previous day's episode had also been fraught with tension, incensing viewers after a series of unexpected turns.

In Tuesday's instalment, Bradley Walsh welcomed four hopefuls – Binesh, Tash, Omar, and Annabelle – who were ready to put their knowledge to the test. They squared up against Anne "The Governess" Hegerty, on fine form, quickly eliminating the first contestant, Binesh.

As the competition progressed, Anne dispatched both Tash and Omar, leaving Annabelle to go it alone in the final chase.

The Chase airs Mondays-Fridays at 5pm on ITV1.
