Dying For Sex real life: Where is Nikki Boyer now?

Dying For Sex is ready to watch but what happened to Nikki Boyer, Molly Kochan’s fiercely loyal best friend?
Disney+ dropped all eight episodes of Dying For Sex on Friday, 4th April, focussing on the end of Molly Kochan’s (played by Michelle Williams) life after her terminal cancer diagnosis.
Upon hearing the heartbreaking news, Molly leaves her husband Steve (Jay Duplass) of 15 years in order to explore her sexuality with ongoing support from her best friend Nikki Boyer (Jenny Slate).
Nikki takes over Steve’s day-to-day duties of hospital appointments, medications and the flurry of symptoms that come with treatment but it’s soon apparent that acting as her friend’s carer is taking its toll.
Nevertheless, Nikki remains by Molly’s side through thick and thin as she continues to discover the best way for her to spend her remaining days.
In the months leading up to Molly’s death in 2019 at the age of 45, she and Nikki recorded conversations about her experiences which would be part of the podcast Dying For Sex, posthumously premiering on Wondery in 2020 with Nikki as its host.
Following its release, Dying For Sex won the 2021 Amie Award for Podcast of the Year and was named as one of Apple’s favourite podcasts in 2020.

While It Ends With Us star Jenny Slate is portraying Nikki in front of the screen, the real Nikki was working hard behind the cameras as an executive producer on Dying For Sex.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Nikki hosted almost 200 episodes of Wondery’s good news podcast The Daily Smile and launched Call Me Curious, a “light-hearted investigative series” that delves into offbeat topics.
In addition to these, she has also co-hosted the popular weekly podcast Straight Talk With Ross Mathews.
She has also founded audio-first media company Dying For Media and with Kevin Sabbe, co-created and co-executive produced Step Girlfriends, reportedly based on her life and optioned by CBS Studios.

The 49-year-old also made her make by hosting Yahoo!’s Daytime in No Times, “making her the most watched woman on the web with over 700 million clicks during her time there”.
What fans may not realise, however, is that Nikki does make a cameo in Dying For Sex as “cousin Sheila” in the fifth episode of the Disney+ drama
Speaking to Tink Media in 2023 about her experiences Nikki shared: “Working with Molly forever changed my life and my world.
“Having a front row seat during her brave battle, and being allowed to tell her story was the most meaningful experience of my career.
“Dying for Sex deepened my love of storytelling, and pushed me to create content that is both meaningful and entertaining.”
Dying For Sex is available to watch on Disney+.
