Are Any The Summer I Turned Pretty Spinoffs In The Works? Here's What We Know So Far

Are we already talking about The Summer I Turned Pretty spinoffs? Season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty is in full swing, but that's not stopping fans from already thinking about the future of the saga, hoping the TSITP universe continues even after Belly makes her long-anticipated decision at the end of the summer.
In case you've been living under a rock, The Summer I Turned Pretty is not only Jenny Han's debut novel series but also her TV debut. “There has been quite a lot of interest in The Summer I Turned Pretty over the years, but it never felt like the right fit because deep down I realized I wanted to do it myself," Han said in 2022, when the series debuted its first season on Prime Video.
Soon after, the series claimed the number one spot on the streamer, and it has remained at the top ever since. As shared by Amazon, the two-episode premiere of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 attracted 40% more viewers than season 2's, amassing 25 million unique global viewers in its first week, and viewership has reportedly tripled since season 1 dropped.
With the show officially becoming one of Prime Video's most-watched shows ever, all eyes are on the future. Below, we have compiled everything Jenny Han, the TSITP cast, and Prime Video execs have said about potential The Summer I Turned Pretty spinoffs. Buckle up!

Most people think that The Summer I Turned Pretty IP will survive the show's third and final season since Jenny Han signed a TV and film deal with Amazon Studios in 2022.
“Adapting my novel, The Summer I Turned Pretty, into a television series at Prime Video has been an incredible experience, and I’m so thrilled to now expand my relationship with them,” Han said at the time the deal was announced. “I’ve been telling stories for as long as I can remember, first on the page, then onscreen, and now I’m delighted to start this new chapter: creating and championing stories about coming of age at every age for Prime Video’s global audience.”
The scope of the deal has led many to speculate that the author could expand the TSITP universe in a brand-new way after the original series wraps, especially considering she has already done it in the past. Following the success of the To All The Boys film saga on Netflix, Han masterminded a spinoff series centered on Kitty, the younger sister of TATB protagonist Lara Jean Covey. Titled XO, Kitty, the show premiered on Netflix back in 2023 after two years in production and is now gearing up for its third season on the streamer.
“I would always be open to coming back to [the TSITP] universe,” Jan told Australian outlet Pedestrian TV in July 2025. “I love Cousins. I love all the characters and the actors. What would it look like? I don't know. It would have to be something I was really excited about creatively.”
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Han echoed the sentiment, saying: “If the story is there, then I'm there. As a storyteller, you just get hit with inspiration all the time. If I had a really great idea that I was excited by, that I wanted to keep telling the story, and if [the stars] were excited to do it, then I would be so pumped. It really depends on if I feel like there is more story to tell.”

Amazon MGM Studios head of TV Vernon Sanders was asked about potential The Summer I Turned Pretty spinoffs by Variety in July 2025, and he revealed that “all plans lead with Jenny Han.”
“She’s known from the beginning how she’s wanted to do this, so we’ve been focused on this, getting the season right and ending it the right way," Sanders said, referring to the show's third and final season, which is slated to end on September 17, 2025.
However, Sanders did tease that Han might already be juggling ideas, and Amazon is more than willing to jump straight in. “Once the full thing is released, we’ll be able to have more conversations with her. She’s got new ideas that she’s been dying to tackle. So whatever Jenny wants to do, we want to do it with her,” he added.
Speaking to Deadline in 2023, Sanders already teased that the TSITP universe could continue beyond the main seasons. “This show is going to continue to be a huge centerpiece for us, and we absolutely have plans to continue building it,” Sanders said at the time. “Jenny’s got great vision for where she wants to go with all of it, but we’re already hard at work developing complementary pieces… I will say, stay tuned, but Jenny’s got some exciting surprises. So we’re thrilled about a season 3, and she’s got a vision for more.”

Should The Summer I Turned Pretty get a spinoff (or spinoffs), multiple avenues could potentially be explored, but there seems to be a clear favorite between the cast members and fans of the show, and that is Susannah and Laurel's backstory. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the cast members of TSITP were asked for their dream collab, and most of them agreed that seeing Susannah and Laurel in college would be a dream.
Before it was even adapted into the show, The Summer I Turned Pretty was described as a “multigenerational drama,” so exploring the relationship between these two characters would certainly expand on that aspect of the series.
The show has already added emphasis on Susannah and Laurel’s friendship, which Han previously shouted out in an interview with Variety in 2022. “One of the pleasures in adapting this for TV was that we got to expand out from Belly’s point of view, where in the books, it’s really interior because you’re literally in her head. For the show, we got to expand our world and spend time with other characters in their heads. It was important to me for these two women to have their own storylines that are separate from being the roles of mother or wife — that they had their own inner worlds and their own coming of age,” Han said at the time.
“I really wanted to show the breadth of female friendships and the intensity of it and the intimacy of it and really celebrate how these two women chose each other, and they’ve been choosing each other for decades,” she added. “They really prioritize their friendship, so much so that they choose to be at this house together and bring their kids with them and create this magical world as one family.”
