All the Ways You Can Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Jaws

All the Ways You Can Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Jaws
preview for 'Jaws' Blu-ray trailer

Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water, Jaws is back again. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's seminal monster thriller, and Universal is pulling out all the stops for its golden year. This includes a special primetime broadcast of Jaws on NBC with an introduction from Spielberg himself.

On June 12, NBC announced a special primetime telecast of Jaws as part of Universal's 50th-anniversary festivities for the film. Jaws will re-air on NBC on Friday, June 20, at 8:00 p.m. ET. NBC added that the broadcast will have an introduction from Steven Spielberg.

"Universal is home to the biggest movies in the world and it doesn't get any bigger than Jaws," said Jenny Storms, chief marketing officer of NBCUniversal Television & Streaming, in a statement. "We want to celebrate 50 years of this enduring film that has captured the public imagination for generations by bringing it to audiences at home in all the ways they love to watch."

Looking to crack open a Narragansett and take to the seas with Captain Quint one more time? Well, NBC isn't the only place where you can get your fix of man-eating mayhem. Here are all the ways you can celebrate Jaws week yourself.

How to Watch Jaws (and Its Sequels) at Home

While sitting in front of your TV on a Friday night has nostalgic appeal, those with livelier schedules have more modern ways of wading into Jaws. Since June 15, all four movies in the Jaws franchise have been streaming on Peacock, and they will stay on the platform until July 14. The collection includes the original Jaws, as well as Jaws 2 (1978), Jaws 3 (1983), and Jaws: The Revenge (1987).

For physical-media collectors, Jaws will see yet another Blu-ray release with the Jaws 50th Anniversary Edition, marking the second time Jaws has been available in 4K Ultra HD. (The first time was in a set timed to the movie's 45th anniversary five years ago.) The new set features the new documentary Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story, which retraces the making of Jaws from Peter Benchley's original novel to its notoriously difficult production. The 4K set will come with a code that will allow you to redeem a digital version of Jaws to watch anytime, anywhere—no subscription service needed.

Where to Watch Jaws in Theaters

If you prefer in-person experiences, Universal will bring the original 1975 Jaws back into theaters for special screenings. All around the country on Labor Day weekend (August 29 through September 4), Jaws will return to theaters for a limited time.

More special events include a June 21 screening at Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, where Jaws was filmed. (The evening prior, on June 20, will also have a screening and after-party for Jaws @ 50.)

Alamo Drafthouse is also resurrecting its very fun Jaws on the Water series, where moviegoers can enjoy outdoor screenings of Jaws while keeping afloat in a giant lake at Volente Beach Resort and Waterpark in Leander, Texas. (The event features underwater scares as scuba divers tug and poke audiences during the movie.) As of this writing, the June 7 screening has already passed. But there will be additional Jaws on the Water screenings on June 21, July 12, and July 26.

For similar experiences in New Jersey, various beach towns including Middletown (June 20), Seaside Heights (July 6), and Cape May (August 14) will host outdoor "Movies on the Beach" screenings of Jaws. Lest you think New Jersey is a random state to celebrate Jaws in, remember that the infamous 1916 Jersey Shore shark attacks were the inspiration for Peter Benchley's novel, and in the movie, Roy Scheider's Brody mentions the 1916 New Jersey attacks by name. Benchley also lived in New Jersey when he wrote and published Jaws.

Finally, after you've had your fill of Jaws, you can head over to Universal Studios for its Mega Movie Summer 2025 event, where you can grill police chief Brody and share tall tales of the sea with Captain Quint yourself.
