Marcelo evokes Nuno Portas: "One of the most visionary personalities"

President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, this Sunday, commemorated Miguel Portas, emphasizing that the architect was " one of the most visionary and brilliant figures in the academic, cultural, political, and social life of the Catholic-inspired resistance movement of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s." The architect, father of Paulo and Miguel Portas, died at the age of 90.
In a message published on the Presidency's website, the head of state stressed that Nuno Portas "was remarkable as an architect, as a teacher, as an urban planner, as an animator of artistic, cultural, civic, political and social movements in general" .
"He remained this way from the resistance to the dictatorship until the first decades of democracy. Being a viscerally solitary personality, he dedicated himself to the community and left a very diverse following in all the areas in which he was exceptional," Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa highlighted in the same note.
The President of the Republic also offered Nuno Portas' family "his most respectful, grateful and friendly condolences".

"At this moment, my heart is especially turned to my remaining son and to our grandchildren, who are now facing the pain of a profound loss. I hope he finds peace, and that the memory of what was good lives on in the hearts of those who loved him," he concluded.
