King Charles III ends the Royal Train service in the United Kingdom

King Charles III has decided to end the use of the Royal Train by the British monarchy for the first time since the Victorian era, as part of his plan to cut costs and modernize the Crown .

The royal treasurer announced he had approved the use of two helicopters to transport the royal household and the dismantling of the train due to high costs, measures included in the royal family's annual financial report released Monday.

James Chalmers , Treasurer of the Royal Household, described the measure as an example of " fiscal discipline ".

The sovereign grant , which covers royal duties and the upkeep of the palaces, remained at £86.3 million ($118.5 million) in the financial year ending March 2025.

The report comes at the end of a fiscal year in which King Charles III resumed his royal duties after being diagnosed with cancer .
