Jury to deliberate again tomorrow on 'Diddy' Combs case

Jury to deliberate again tomorrow on 'Diddy' Combs case

The jury in the case against rapper Sean " Diddy " Combs reached a partial verdict on Tuesday on four of the five charges against him and will continue deliberating tomorrow, Wednesday, on the first count, which relates to " conspiracy to commit organized crime ."

The twelve members of the jury handed the judge a note indicating that they had reached a verdict on charges two, three, four and five, relating to sex trafficking and transportation for pimping the two main victims :

  • Cassie Ventura
  • Jane , a woman who has testified under the generic pseudonym

However, they haven't specified whether they found him guilty or not guilty. After receiving the jury's verdict, Diddy 's lawyers gathered around him to speak with him, gesticulating profusely while the rapper remained dejected and barely responded to his legal team.

Then he approached his six children and spoke to them in a whisper.

In the note, read out in court by Judge Arun Subramnian, the jurors stated that they have reached a verdict on those charges but are " unable to reach a verdict on the first charge ."

In addition to conspiracy to commit organized crime, which carries the highest penalty of all: life imprisonment .

They also noted that regarding this charge, "there are unpersuasive opinions on both sides" within the jury panel .

"This has been a long trial, and they've been deliberating for about thirteen hours and have already reached a verdict on some of the charges. I don't think they need any further instructions to continue," Agnifilo said.

He also asked the judge to require the jurors to "continue deliberating " and rejected the possibility of giving "a partial verdict ."

The prosecution , represented by prosecutor Maurene Comey, agreed that the jury "has not deliberated long enough " and insisted that it must continue to reach a conclusion on the first charge .

Subramanian noted that the court was closed Thursday and asked both sides whether he should ask jurors to come to court if deliberations go too far.

"I'm concerned that the jury will want to reach a verdict quickly. We're asking that we not tell them this now, as some may feel pressured , and we're asking that we discuss this with them tomorrow at the end of the day," Agnifilo said after consulting with the rest of the legal team.

Subramanian called the jurors into the room and reminded them that, although their verdict must be unanimous.

"They are not required to waive their honest beliefs about the effect or weight of the evidence for the sole purpose of reaching a verdict or solely because of the opinions of other jurors ."

"Each of you must make your own decision on this case, based on the evidence and discussions with your fellow jurors . No juror should surrender their beliefs in order to reach a unanimous verdict ," he noted.

Diddy , who was supported in court today by his mother, his six children and his sister, appeared to display a nervous attitude during the discussions between the judge, the defense and the prosecution , and drummed his fingers on one of his knees.

In the charges where a verdict has been reached, Combs is accused of sex trafficking his now ex-girlfriends :

In addition to transporting them between cities and states, and sometimes between countries, so that they could participate in sexual marathons with prostitutes or strippers, whom he himself called " freak offs ."
