Colgate Palmolive celebrates “National Brushing Day”

Colgate Palmolive joined the commemoration of National Brushing Day , carrying out simultaneous education and brushing activities in schools and communities across the country with its partners, benefiting thousands of children and spreading bright smiles to communities.
This initiative is part of the joint efforts between the Dentistry Directorate of the National Health Service (SNS), the National Institute of Comprehensive Early Childhood Care (INAIPI) and the Dominican College of Dentists (CDO), with the purpose of promoting healthy habits from early childhood and strengthening the prevention of oral diseases.
Irma Mauriz, Senior Manager of Professional Relations for the Caribbean at Colgate-Palmolive, pointed out that: "Our ' Bright Smiles, Bright Futures ' program impacted :
- More than 3,000,000 children and their families in 2024.
- So far in 2025 , they have reached more than 2,600,000 children and their families in the Dominican Republic .

This program, implemented in collaboration with public and private entities, has significantly contributed to the formation of oral hygiene habits in school-aged children, providing educational materials, practical demonstrations and community dental support .
Dental kitsMeanwhile, Dr. Mario Bournigal , director of the Dentistry Department of the National Health Service (SNS), reported that currently 56,616 children brush their teeth daily in schools.
He added that more than 640,000 dental kits have been distributed nationwide to educational centers , hospitals, diagnostic centers and daycare centers, promoting the creation of healthy habits in the child population.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in a report on the global status of oral health , the most frequent diseases are dental caries , severe periodontitis, tooth loss, and oral cancer.
Untreated tooth decay is the most prevalent condition worldwide and is estimated to affect 2.5 billion people.
In the Dominican Republic, local studies conducted by the Clinical Journal of Periodontics , Implantology and Oral Rehabilitation, such as the one entitled:
" Indicators of Cariogenic Risk in Adolescents of Santo Domingo (2008) and the analysis of the National University Pedro Henríquez Ureña (2019)", have shown a prevalence of dental caries of 7.8% in adolescents aged 12 to 14 years, reaching up to 90% in some groups evaluated.
These findings highlight the urgent need to strengthen preventive education from the earliest years of life.
